Since our inception in 1950, education has been the foundation of lifesaving success. Our programs blend theory with practical training to equip members with critical lifesaving skills, decision-making abilities, and leadership qualities.

Our Lifesaving Courses

We offer a comprehensive range of courses endorsed by Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) and Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA). Each course is designed to prepare participants for real-life rescue situations and enhance their safety awareness.

  • Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC): Entry-level training for 13–15 year olds.
  • Bronze Medallion: Core qualification for active lifesavers aged 15 and up.
  • First Aid & CPR: Essential emergency response skills.
  • Advanced Awards: Including Silver Medallion, IRB Driver, and Oxygen Administration.

Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)

The SRC serves as the entry qualification for young members aged 13 to 15. It introduces key concepts in beach safety, rescue techniques, and CPR. Upon completion, members may assist on patrols and compete in junior surf sports.

Topics covered:

  • Surf awareness and hazard identification
  • Basic rescue techniques (board and tube rescues)
  • First aid fundamentals and CPR
  • Communication skills and patrol procedures

The course typically runs over 4 to 6 weeks, blending online theory with practical beach sessions. Graduates earn a nationally recognised certification.

Bronze Medallion

The Bronze Medallion is the fundamental qualification required for active lifesavers aged 15 and above. It covers advanced rescue techniques, CPR, risk assessment, and emergency response. Bronze Medallion holders are eligible to patrol beaches, compete in competitions, and take leadership roles.

Course topics include:

  • Advanced surf awareness and survival skills
  • Spinal injury management and team rescues
  • CPR and use of automated external defibrillators (AED)
  • Oxygen administration and emergency care
  • Risk assessment and patrol management

Training is conducted by qualified instructors through weekend practicals and theory modules. Completion grants eligibility for advanced awards and leadership positions.
